7 Interesting Facts About LA Model Angelyne
Who Is Angelyne? — 7 Interesting Facts About the Pink-Obsessed LA Icon
If West Hollywood is your spot, then chances are you've seen a hot pink Corvette cruising the streets of Santa Monica Boulevard and Melrose Avenue with a Barbie-looking woman behind the wheel. I had totally forgotten about the existence of Angelyne — the model who made headlines in the '80s for her life-sized billboards throughout LA — until I was blinded by her bright vehicle while walking in WeHo last week. As of 2010, Angelyne's billboards have disappeared, but she's clearly still cruising around town in her favorite ride. Here are seven interesting facts I dug up about the LA icon who rocks head-to-toe pink. You can spit them out the next time you and your friends drive by the famous pink Corvette.

- The pink Corvette Angelyne drives today is her second one. The first one's license plate read "Anglyne," while this one is "Angelnn."
- Some say her former rich husband funded the life-sized billboards, while Angelyne has claimed it was investors who picked up the bills.
- She's said to be in her late 40s, but Angelyne is still clearly obsessed with Barbie. In one of her many billboards, she said: "Barbie wishes she were me."
- She has a Twitter account but hasn't posted anything since 2007. Her last message on Sept. 3 reads: "It's so hot I can't get my nail polish to dry. At least we all have an excuse to wear next to nothing. Who else is suffering in LA heat?"
- In 2003, Angelyne was a candidate in the California recall election. Her slogan? "We've had Gray, we've had Brown, now it's time for some blond and pink." Needless to say, she didn't win.
- She's played a hitchhiker in 2000's Flies on Cupid, a Barbara Bush impersonator in The Malibu Beach Vampires in 1991, and a gas girl in 1988's Earth Girls Are Easy.
- Not too long ago in March, Angelyne sold her three-bedroom Malibu condo — full with pink furniture, feathers, and gilt mirrors — for $600,000.
