Dita Von Teese's Favorite LA Stores For Vintage and More
Where Burlesque Babe Dita Von Teese Shops 'Til She Drops
Even if you haven't seen burlesque queen Dita Von Teese put on one helluva show inside a gigantic martini glass, it's not hard to see her charm. She's stunning and always looks polished — you'll never find her in sweats. Besides dancing, Dita has also teamed up with Cointreau liqueur and designed the My Private Cointreau Coffret jewel box (available for $299 at Fred Segal, 8100 Melrose Ave., 323-651-4129). Off duty, one of her favorite things to do is to shop for vintage clothes and other goodies; check out these six LA gems that Dita recently shared with me.
- The Way We Wore Vintage (334 S. La Brea Ave., 323-937-0878) "Doris Raymond's vintage store on La Brea is my favorite LA vintage store. From 1940's beaded black crepe dresses to coveted '90s Thierry Mugler suits, I always come out of her store with oodles of gorgeousness!"
- "The Santa Monica Vintage Expo (1855 Main St., Santa Monica, 707-793-0773) happens twice a year and is my favorite vintage fair, with the best dealers from all over the country and good deals to be had. Definitely visit Connie Parente for the best vintage designer jewelry."
- Faire Frou Frou (13017a Ventura Blvd., Studio City, 818-783-4970) "Has a very nice selection of beautiful and sexy lingerie with European brands you won't find anywhere else. They carry luxury brands like Damaris, Cadolle, Fifi Chachnil, and more. This is the new go-to lingerie store for seductive lingerie that fits beautifully . . . yes, you can have it all! If you can't fly to Paris for a day of lingerie shopping, head to Faire Frou Frou!"
- Wacko (4633 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, 323-663-0122) "Fantastic books of all kinds from fine photo books to the obscure and weird. I never leave there without at least a dozen new additions to my library, and gifts galore for friends. They sell every interesting book you could ever ask for, and they stock all of my books, alongside every pinup, fetish, and burlesque book you could ever want!"
- Veteran's Stadium Antique Market (4901 E. Conant St., Long Beach, 323-655-5703) "Forget the Rose Bowl, this is, in my opinion, the best market for serious antique/vintage clothing collectors. A bit of a drive, but worth it! Nearly every time I go, I have to phone a friend with an SUV to come fetch me and my purchases!"
- Re-Mix (7605 Beverly Blvd., West Hollywood, 323-936-6210) "For reproduction vintage shoes. A girl has to have a few pairs of sensible shoes amongst the Louboutins, so I go for classics, with faithful '40s style wedges. These were especially made for us early '90s swing dancers, so they have various styles, from non-slip sticky soles to smooth sliding classic leather soles in a variety of colors and styles."
