La Plaza de Cultura y Artes in Downtown Los Angeles
La Plaza de Cultura y Artes Grand Opening Tomorrow
Last week, Eva Longoria helped celebrate LA's newest cultural center, La Plaza de Cultura y Artes (501 N. Main St., 213-542-6200). If you didn't get an invite, don't worry: the equally fun grand opening takes place this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a free celebration of live music and art workshops in its 30,000-square foot garden, El Jardín, along with tours the new exhibition, LA Starts Here!, which examines Mexican and Mexican American history and identity in Los Angeles.
Other exhibitions that will run indefinitely include Calle Principal, exploring the Mexican American community of downtown during the '20s, and Voces Vivas, a short film with interviews with a handful of Mexican Americans. If your visit speaks to your heart, you can volunteer your time or donate to La Plaza's annual fund.
